DESCRIPTION :
This project focuses on developing an autonomous UAV motion planning framework for a known environment. The drone will navigate safely and efficiently using path planning algorithms generated by RRT (Rapidly-exploring Random Trees), Genetic Algorithms (GAs) and/or or Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). The project involves simulating UAV behavior in Gazebo under ROS/ROS2, processing sensor data, and evaluating the effectiveness of different path planning strategies. The resulting framework will serve as a research testbed for autonomous navigation in structured and partially dynamic environments.
Working methodology and responsibilities
* Create 3D Environment based on OSM meta data data,
* Implement offline autonomous motion planning algorithms for UAVs (RRT, GA, PSO) as ROS2 packages (Node, Launch files, etc.).
* Motion planner Integrated with ROS2 and PX4/MAVLink, in Gazebo.
* Simulate sensors (e.g., RGB, LiDAR) to validate safe navigation.
* Evaluate algorithm performance (path optimality, computation time, obstacle avoidance).
* Create an HMI for mission monitoring and control (including 2D Google map).
* Document methods, results, and comparison of planning algorithms., * Motion planning algorithm such RRT, and evolutionary algorithms such GA, PSO
* UAV autonomous navigation and path planning for ground and aerial robotics
* Integration of PX4 Autopilot MAVLink with Gazebo and ROS/ROS 2
* Familiar with ROS2 notions such Node, Packages, lunches, Param etc.
* Research methodology, experimental validation, and scientific documentation
